FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah. (September 2, 2024) – Utah based Warrior Rising now backs scholarships aimed to help military families stay afloat during these difficult financial times. The generous donation will fund an online course that teaches military spouses and veterans how to use the Thrifty app, an innovative platform that helps individuals sell unused items. “We’re proud to back this program, which gives military families a way to create flexible income and gain valuable skills,” said Jason Van Camp, Warrior Rising’s Executive Director. This initiative is made possible through the generous support of Warrior Rising, a nationwide veteran support organization headquartered in Utah.

Rebecca Smith, the founder of Thrifty and the winner of Warrior Rising’s 2023 Utah Business Shower Pitch Competition, created this scholarship program to empower military families. The funds from her victory have been directed toward offering full scholarships to military spouses and veterans interested in the Professional Reseller Training Course. This self-paced, 20-hour course equips participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed as professional resellers, opening doors to flexible, home-based income opportunities.

Upon completion of the course, graduates receive a certificate and an interview to join Thrifty as a manager. Depending on their availability, Thrifty Managers can earn between $400 and over $100,000 annually. This program is particularly beneficial for military spouses, who often face unique employment challenges due to frequent relocations and other family responsibilities.

Rebecca Smith’s husband, Joshua Smith, a Marine Combat Veteran, served in Iraq, providing her with a deep understanding of the difficulties military families face. “This program is our way of giving back to the community that has given us so much,” said Smith.
